It was always Sherianne’s intention to attempt the ACCA papers after completion of her first degree programme at UTech. Therefore, in 2014, she took up the mantle and after much research made the decision to enroll with the Global Accountancy Institute to complete her professional accountancy studies.
There were stumbles in her first attempts at the exams, which was a totally new feeling to her in all her years of studying. However, after much in-depth thought and review; Sherianne dusted herself off and restarted with the aim of never looking back or failing again.
Sherianne successfully completed her final ACCA professional examination, obtaining the highest mark in Paper F8 (Audit and Assurance) in Jamaica in the December 2015 sitting. She also placed first in the island in Paper P1 (Governance, Risk and Ethics) in the June 2016 sitting of the ACCA examinations. She describes the journey of completing her ACCA’s exam as a rough, tiring, disciplined and focused one but where in the end, the hard work, determination and dedication paid off. “There will always be naysayers but you should know when to shut them out and press on”, she said.
Sherianne thanks her mother, family members, friends and co-workers who always encouraged her in her educational journey. She also thanks lecturer at the Global Accountancy Institute, Dr. Glen Brown, for his support. “My recommendation to current students is never give up on your goals. Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. If you quit once it becomes a habit. Never quit!” she advised.
